First Day in U of M Campus

Greg drove me to U of M the next day I arrived. It is about 20-30 minutes drive from his house to the campus. It is the Interstate 94 that mainly connects these two places. Weather was hot in Minnesota, much hoter than Harbin, and of couse than I expected.

When we crossed bridge, I saw the Mississippi river, less wider than I thought. Their are much vegatation along the road. Oh, the etyma "Minne-" means thousands of lakes. We should see many many "Minne-" stuff there, such as Minneapolis, Minnehaha(it is a funny word), Minnehoka, etc. So Minnesota have plenty of trees and water. I like that.

On the first day, we've been given orientations from COM guys. They are truly helpful. We got information about the housing, banking, cellphone, transportation, etc. One guy introduced the several main buildings to us and showed us the way we could initiate our university ID card. We ate lunch in a western restaurant, which is our first meal on campus. There are much computer terminals in campus buildings; we can use our university accounts to log in. Although only web browser was available, but it was very handy and we could receive and send emails. I also found that the whole area was covered by wireless network, which meant that I could bring my own laptop here. That's great!

Actually we did do many things in the first day; we got our university ID cards, opened accounts in the bank, went to the payroll office, checked in with my department, also memorize some buildings' name and location, etc. It is brand-new place, and a place we shall live in for the next 5-6 years. Hope I can get settled and begin research soon~
